Jutsu Rules
Jutsu are the ninja arts that are performed by shinobi, whether it be from the use of chakra or simply physical ability. This set of rules covers the basics of the various jutsus that are available on this site.
Obtaining Jutsus
Learning Justus requires technique points (TP). You must be jutsu training in order to learn moves and all instructors will teach jutsus for a set amount of TP per jutsu. Some jutsus, however, require a specific master to learn them, whether it be a bloodline related jutsu or simply a jutsu that is specific to a certain village or person. These moves will be marked as master-specific on the jutsu page. In order to actually claim the jutsu, you must also submit a roleplay of how you learned to perform the jutsu.
Custom jutsus can be created by submitting a jutsu application in the appropriate board, although there are restrictions on doing so. These custom jutsus will be specific to an individual or clan and thus can only be taught by that individual or clan if they deem you worthy.
Jutsus can also be leveled up and mastered by training the move repeatedly once you have learned it. Doing this requires sinking more TP into the jutsu and providing more roleplay training its use.
Jutsu Levels
As with missions, there is a ranking system to help determine how powerful a specific jutsu is in relation to others. The ranking starts at E-rank for academy student level jutsus and then continues up to S-rank for the most advanced jutsus.
Each rank of justu requires more roleplay in order to successfully learn the technique. It is a fairly simple concept, as each jutsu rank requires half of the word count of an equivalent ranked mission in order to learn the jutsu. For example, while a D-ranked justu would require half of the word count of a D-ranked mission (500 words) to learn, a C-ranked justu would require half of the word count of a C-ranked mission (1,000 words) to learn. This word count can be split between multiple threads if you so desire.
The TP requirements change depending on the jutsu as well. As a general rule of thumb, these are the requirements:
Elements
Each shinobi is born with an innate chakra nature manifested as one of the five major nature transformations. It is possible to train and gain additional nature transformations, although doing so is difficult and is dependent on your shinobi rank. Everyone is born with a single nature transformation. When a shinobi has achieved the rank of Chuunin, they can undergo training to unlock another one. At the rank of Jounin, a third element can be unlocked. The Sannin of a village can unlock a fourth nature transformation. Finally, the Kage of a village can unlock the fifth nature transformation in order to ensure the safety of their village.
Each of the five nature transformations has both a strength and a weakness. The five transformations and their strengths/weaknesses are as follows:
Water is strong against Fire and weak against Earth.
Fire is strong against Wind and weak against Water.
Wind is strong against Lightning and weak against Fire.
Lightning is strong against Earth and weak against Wind.
Earth is strong against Water and weak against Lightning.
Each shinobi also possesses the yin and yang elements, which are used in conjunction to perform non-elemental jutsus such as genjutsu, medical ninjutsu, shadow clones, substitutions, etc.
If a justu of one element goes up against the element that it is weaker against, the weaker elemental jutsu is completely negated with no effect to the stronger. If two jutsus from the same element go up against each other, they will either completely negate each other if they are the same power, or the stronger will add half of the power of the weaker to its own power. If, however, two elements go up against each other that are not related, the weaker will be negated and the stronger will have its power reduced by the power of the weaker.
Collaboration jutsus can also be performed with multiple people or by using a summon. By using a collaboration jutsu, a weaker element jutsu can amplify the stronger element jutsu by adding their power together.
Finally, some bloodlines have clan-specific elemental affinities that are combined elemental transformations. This includes things such as the Senju Clan’s Wood release or the Yuki Clan’s Ice release. If a character is part of a clan that is gifted with one of these combined elemental transformations, they will receive the ability to use it at the rank of Genin, along with both of the affinities that make up the transformation. The clan-affinity does not count toward your maximum elemental transformations, and the acquisition of the two affinities that make up the combined elemental transformation means that you don’t get to choose a new affinity until the rank of Jounin.
Specializations
Each shinobi has a talent or focus for a particular type of jutsu. These talents are known as specializations on this site. Each time you gain a rank, you are given a certain number of specialization points (SP) which can be spent to gain specialization levels. Each specialization level will provide bonuses and access to higher ranking jutsu for that particular specialization.
The specializations and levels are as follows:
Ninjutsu: The most common form of jutsu and includes most elemental jutsus. almost any technique which allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. More complex ninjutsu manipulate one's surroundings or utilise the elements, respectively serving such tasks as healing others or manipulating nature transformations. Ninjutsu, most of the time, relies on chakra and hand seals to be effective.
Genjutsu: Techniques that are employed in the same fashion as ninjutsu, requiring chakra and hand seals. However, the primary difference between the two is that the effects of genjutsu are illusory; instead of attacking the victim's body, like taijutsu or ninjutsu, genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses.
Genjutsu is subject to review by battle refs in order to ensure they are not abused.
Taijutsu: Any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities. It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally requires no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses, and are far quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu.
Bukijutsu: Techniques that entail the use of any handheld weapons in combat, whether the users be shinobi or samurai..
Medical Ninjutsu A branch of ninjutsu associated with healing, as well as the manipulation of their own, or anothers' body. The use of medical ninjutsu requires very advanced chakra control, as well as extensive knowledge on such things as herbs, medicines, the human body and even poisons.
Fuinjutsu: A type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. Fūinjutsu can also be used to restrict movement or unseal objects either from within something or someone.
Kugujutsu: Kugujutsu uses chakra threads to control puppets like marionettes. The threads basically move the puppets by their joints, but can also activate any traps and hidden weapons. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet.
